Picturing the Conditions of Hope.
In 2012, David Cross designated his academic employment as an artist placement, with a remit to engage with the social-ecological crisis. Since then, Cross has campaigned with students and staff for the university to divest from fossil fuels, helped organise Climate Assemblies, and highlighted that the university’s bank finances controversial weapons to war zones, and genocide.
He is now proposing that the university should become a co-operative.
David will apply the elements of picturing — framing, representing and envisioning — to describe this Action Research project, which enables him to explore ideological influences on the university as a space of knowledge production.
